Shock result as South Africa dominant in the inaugural Little Bedwyn World Sparkling Wine Challenge held in the grounds of The Harrow at Little Bedwyn with entrants from all over the world including Dom Perignon, Cristal and Charles Heidseick from France.
The event was attended by many of the top English winemakers including Emma Rice from Hattingley Estate, Cherrie Spriggs and Brad Greatrix from Nyetimber together with Julia Trustram Eve Marketing Director of The English Wine Producers. Australia was represented by Wine Australia’s Emma Symington, South Africa by Neleen Strauss partner in High Timber Restaurant. Other judges included Mr & Mrs Mark Lewis, Publisher The Caterer Magazine, Mr & Mrs Steve McGraw, Managing Director Riedel UK and Mr & Mrs Arvind Malhotra; The FutureSense Foundation.
All the wines were served blind with no further information or prices. In the top 10 South Africa triumphed along with France with 4, England 2, Charles Heidseick was the best house with 3 in the top 10.
